How can I link a specific 500px portfolio in Facebook with thumbnails in the correct order?

I am sure this is simple and I am just missing something; How can I post a link to a specific 500px portfolio of mine so that the link others see displays the thumbnail images in the correct order or shows the first image in my portfolio.

If I just copy and paste the link to my portfolio, it adds all the images as thumbnails in some random order.

Facebook is sort of a pain to work with for images, IME. The most reliable way to throw them clues seems to be the use of their open-graph meta tags. This post on wordpress.stackexchange.com is a pretty good place to start. I'm not positive I'm looking at the right 500px portfolio for you (the link in your profile is broken, I believe), but I'm not seeing any OG tags in there. Even with the use of OG tags, though, I'm not sure there's a way to specify order beyond just ordering the tags (and I'm not sure how well that's respected by FB).

At some point in 2012, I believe 500px is supposed to offer customizable portfolio themes (most likely for "awesome" customers only), but I have a feeling your best bet may be to just wait for them to get the meta tags sorted out themselves.

Publishing photos in UK

Does anyone know the legal aspects for the following situation? At a sports competition someone took photos of me. They have since posted them on Facebook and on a commercial website, where anyone can buy them.

My objection is that I don't want photos of me published without my prior consent. Needless to say, I never gave them my consent. I don't object to them selling the pictures (except that by selling they also publish and distribute).

Is it reasonable (by UK or European law) for me to ask them to take the photos down?

• Given that the competition was open to the public (as spectators) does this change my right on images of me?
• I am not a public figure ;-)
• The competition took place indoors on private property.

If you can please provide links/references to the relevant laws/court decisions.

It seems that the case is reasonably clear. Following Wikimedia's take on things [2], I could expect to be photographed during the competition and therefore the venue could be classified as public.

For the publication of that photo the rules are slightly harder but according to [1] publication seems to be allowed. I am not clear on the commercial use of that photograph. I haven't found a source for that but it might be legal in the UK. If you have an answer to the commercial use than please post your own answer.

Academically interesting is the following:

Photographs of people may also be subject to the Data Protection Act, which controls the "processing" of "personal data", that is, data relating to an individual and from which the individual can be identified. There has not yet been a court case that has determined whether or not an image of a person, [...] , would be caught by the Act [...].[1]

This is related directly to my objection as I see myself being at the competition and my liking of that sport as personal data. Anyway, I will leave it at that and accept that their acting is legal.

What are the optimal JPEG settings for Facebook photos?

Every time I upload a photo to facebook I'm disappointed; the photos just look really bad. What size do you recommend, dpi, etc? If it helps, I'm using lightroom.

I use 72 dpi - Resize to fit checked - 700 pixels - Long Edge - Don't Enlarge checked. Sharpen for Screen - High. Quality 100 - sRGB - JPEG.

How to reupload images to a facebook album from aperture

Question

If I upload some pictures in a new facebook album and after that I need to adjust them, I select the picture from facebook's album in aperture but when the pic is reuploaded on facebook? It does in automatically or there is a commando for force the process?

And other question, there is a way to know if an image is already on a facebook album? Now I need to add some other photos from the same project and maybe I don't remember if it's already in it!

** Update I made myself a way to recognize the pics that are already uploaded on facebook's album....I tagged them with a blue (fb style :)) label!

Answer

Once you create a Facebook album in Aperture it will show up on the left hand pane or project inspector area. To re-upload or sync any changes that you have made, simply click the "publish" icon to the right of the album title.

I found a handy tutorial on Youtube that might help you with this process: here.

There is not a built in feature that specifically notes if an image is on Facebook that I am aware of. You will have to just look at the albums in the project inspector area and see if the images are in the Facebook albums there.
